Stepping Confidently into the Emerging Tech World
Faith Nabalu 25 never imagined herself in a tech career, but coming to 做厙勛圖 as a freshman from Uganda in 2022 gave her the chance to start fresh. Although her fashion electives in high school once inspired her to seek a career in the field, she discovered the B.S. in Cybersecurity Management program at Rivier and it sparked an unexpected interest that opened the door to an entirely new career path.
I wanted to do something more specialized, interesting, and adaptable, Nabalu says. During my time at Rivier, I realized how important and rapidly emerging the cybersecurity field is, and I instantly knew I wanted to be part of it. As I moved through the program, it only confirmed that this was the industry through which I wanted to contribute to society.
Today, shes a Systems Technician at in Manchester, N.H., where shes advanced from intern to full-time team member. The company supports a variety of businesses by managing their technology, maintaining cybersecurity standards, and keeping systems reliable.
During her internship, Nabalu assisted her colleagues with client computers, both remotely and on-site, ensuring they were fully set up, secure, and functioning properly. This included installing apps and configuring essential tools like Teams, OneDrive, and email.
In preparation for the next step in her role, and with strong encouragement from both Mainstay Technologies and Rivier to pursue her Security+ certification, she devoted months to studying and ultimately earned the credential. After the satisfaction of passing the exam, she anticipates staying in the cybersecurity field for many years to come.
Theres so much passion in our work at Mainstay Technologies, which creates a positive working environment where we can all learn from each other, says Nabalu. I appreciate being part of the team and contributing to the bigger picture. It motivates me to put my best foot forward and help people every day.
Nabalu is still inspired by her career change and believes she found her calling. She credits Rivier with giving her the confidence to enter a field she had no prior experience in and connecting her with the company where she began her internship last year.
With her sights set on the future, Nabalu aims to grow into a leadership role in cybersecurity, such as Chief Information Security Officer, and also use her own journey to inspire others to pursue a career path they never thought possible.
