Building a foundation in business, Madeline Fitts ’24 explored her interests and launched a career in non-profit marketing.

Grounded in Business, Driven by Purpose

Madeline Fitts ’24 didn’t set out to pursue a career in business, but a change in direction during her junior year at °µÍø³Ô¹Ï opened the door to an internship that became pivotal in her professional path.

Now a °µÍø³Ô¹Ï graduate with both a B.S. in Business Management and an M.B.A. in Business Management with a concentration in Marketing, Fitts traces her professional journey back to the first semester of her junior year, when she interned as a Marketing and Communications Coordinator with the .

“I had just switched my major from nursing to business and was looking for an internship opportunity,†Fitts says. “I knew I needed to develop both the hard and soft skills required in marketing, so I sought out an internship where I could learn directly from an experienced team.â€

The non-profit organization supports local educators through grants, professional development opportunities, and recognition, funding classroom projects and educational travel to help teachers extend their impact beyond the classroom.

In her role, Fitts managed databases and social media, crafted marketing emails, and supported event registration and fundraising outreach. She remained in the internship through graduation, gaining creative design skills while collaborating closely with senior leadership and team members across the organization.

“Rivier made that internship possible, and through both experiences, I built lasting connections I can still rely on today, which has been incredibly valuable,†she says. “I was able to explore, experiment, and learn before stepping into the real world.â€

Building on her work at the Nashua Education Foundation, Fitts secured a full-time role as Marketing Manager for the , a veteran service organization that supports veterans, families of the fallen, and those grieving loved ones who served. Her work focuses on campaign management and event registration, including national‑level campaigns that reach more than nine million people and drive attendance at fundraising events that help the organization better serve the veteran community.

Fitts was also the recipient of Rivier’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award, presented to a Rivier graduate who graduated within the last 10 years and has distinguished himself/herself as a young professional in his/her profession or community. The award recognizes the individual’s personal and professional achievements since their graduation from Rivier.

“Starting at a smaller non-profit through my internship allowed me to build my marketing skills and gain insight into both how a non-profit operates internally and how it engages donors, which made the transition into my role at a larger organization feel seamless,” Fitts says.

For Fitts, Rivier was more than a place to earn a degree. It was where lasting relationships were built, her career took shape, and the groundwork for her personal and professional success after graduation was built.
